Where were you?

Do you still remember September 11th 2001? I do. I had just gotten out of the shower and Joe had turned on the news (early that morning). We saw the 1st tower on fire. What was going on? was this for real? What happened? I stood there in my green towel in the room watching the tv when the 2nd plane hit. I remember being so scared. I remember being so sad for those people. I rememberd my sister Cherry - where was she? was she OK? wasnt that her train stop that she uses to get to work? I called my Dad (who was then in London and in a meeting) and told him about it. I remember not really being able to process what was happening - I cried. I couldn't even bring myself to do anything. I was still in my towel - shocked - when the towers collapsed. Joe didn't go to school that day. We didnt hear from Cherry till much later in the afternoon. She got to WTC after the 1st but before the 2nd plane hit and was smart enough not go to work. I thought about all the people my family knew back in New Jersey - were they all ok? What about all my dad's old wall st. buddies? I tried to imagine what it would be like to be there. I was so impressed by the bravery of the firemen. I was so sad for those who were trapped. I could not fathom the helpless hoplessness they were feeling. Why did this happen?... So many things going through my mind. I remember the chaos. What were you guys doing/thinking that morning?

Anyways, in the spirit of remembering that day, my girlfriend (one of the supermoms i get to associate with) had the idea to teach our children about how brave the firemen were that day. So, we made some thank you cards and cookies (she baked them) and brought them to our local firestation. The kids got their own hats and they got to sit in the fire truck. I think the firemen were pretty stoked to get the cookies.

What a great idea about bringing cookies to the firemen...was that today or a few years ago? Thanks for your comment and I loved your blog too!

I had an early class and didn't watch the news before, but one of my friends in my class told me that her mom called her and told her what happened. I went home and was glued to the TV all day. I still feel really bad because it took me until 3pm to realize my sister commuted through the WTC, so I tried calling her and I was the first one in our family to get through to her.

I'm actually watching a rebroadcast of msnbc's coverage that day and it's totally bringing back the emotions of that day.

By the way, i love that idea of honoring the local heroes!

I was in the bathroom puking my guts out (pregnant with Jack - baby #2) when Brett called and told me I had to turn on the TV. I remember sitting on the bathroom floor after that just holding Breckyn and crying wondering how I was going to raise two kids in this horrible world. I was so scared. I also remember not feeling too sorry for myself and how sick I was that day. That all went out the door real quick when I saw what was on TV.

Thanks for helping us all to remeber the day that changed us all forever. 9/11 WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU! All my love to the families who lost so much that day.

I was sleeping when Phil called me and told me to turn on the T.V. I could not believe what I was seeing. To see people walking around in such shock and desparation that they didn't know where to go or what to do. It was so sad that I could not keep my eyes off the screen.

After 9/11 I am so much more thankful for all of the people in my life and really appreciate them. This is a great picture that just really shows how much so many people gave of themselves to help others. WE WILL NEVER FORGET!!!!

What an awesome idea and it sounds like the kids and fireman loved it too! I think we'll copy you for next year. I had just gotten out of the shower and was getting ready for work when my friend called and said to turn on the TV. I just sat there in complete shock and disbelief. I called Cherry right away and was amazed I even got through. She was really upset and catching what i think it was the last ferry they let out of the city. I was so grateful she was okay. I think I sat in my towel for about 2 more hours glued to the tv and never even made it in to work that day. Thanks for the post and reminding me how grateful I am to live in a free country and that luckily no one I knew was hurt or killed that horrible day.

How can anyone forget that day. What a great idea! I didn't do anything to honor 9-11 except remember.

I am called a "disaster junkie" I watch everything i can about 9/11, the tsunami, school shootings, etc.. I could tell you pretty much anything about them or pull pictures from files i keep. I know i am INSANE...
I woke up that morning to You (Emily) calling me right after the 1st plane hit. I had fallen asleep with the TV on the night before so all i had to do was roll over and I remember sitting there in bed watching Katie Couric's reaction as the 2nd plane hit. I think it was me that reminded you that was Cherry's stop. I had just visited her a few months before 9/11. I am going to look through my files i think I have a copy of the story she wrote about that day.. It was so touching.
I love the idea of treating the local heros on that day. I am totally stealing that for next year.
I love the annual rememberances the TV shows do.

I take that back. I just walked in my kitchen and saw my Flag thru my window blowing in the wind. I did do something! I remembered to put my flag out to honor and remember the victims and heros.

Hey Emily - I can't believe you came across my blog and remembered me! I am indeed the Amberli that hung out with the Mesa boys - and still keep in touch with some of them a little. We were actually thinking of moving to the Phoenix area this summer but have postponed those plans for now. So yes - I remember you and I'm so happy to see that you are doing well. Thanks for saying hi!
