Engaged

My baby sister Steph is engaged. She came into town last week and we did all the fun engagement shopping (finding her wedding dress, finding bridesmaid dresses...) and we also got to meet her fiance!

They both look like they are 12 yrs old. I am very excited for them. All this makes me think about my life and what it was like when I was engaged. Although I still feel like I am only 20 yrs old, I think I realize maybe I have grown up since then. Steph and Nate are so young and full of hope and naievte (but i dont think that is bad at all)... I remember when I was engaged I would say things like: "yeah, I know marriage is hard, but you just have to work at it..." or "we love eachother, so it will work out..."

I had no clue.

I think my idea of love has really evolved over the years. I am sure it will continue to evolve. We hardly knew eachother when we got engaged (although we thought we did). I can't really put into words all the excitement, fear, hope, infatuation, affection, worry etc. that I felt at that time! Marriage is such a big commitment!
This has really given Joe and I opportunities to talk about how it was when we were engaged. We have both really enjoyed talking about all the things that were going through our minds. It was fast. It was crazy. But, that is how we are, and we wouldn't have it any other way!

This is us on his motorcycle... going 100mph on our way down to Vegas. We did lots of fun crazy things together... we still do, but in a different way.
This was the day he proposed. I was so surprised that he proposed. I didn't see it coming - but I KNEW I had to say yes! After the initial shock of being engaged wore off... We went on a double date w/our friends (who ended up getting engaged and married a month after us!)

What were you thinking when you were engaged?

Nate, hope you are ready to enter a CRAZY family... good luck! ;) and CONGRATS!

Awww, I love the pics! Although the mother in me wants to tell Joe to put on some pants on that motorcycle (I still have scars from falling on one once and getting road rash!)

I said yes without hesitation, then spent months worrying if I was doing the right thing, but the day of the wedding was the calmest and happiest. We seriously have NO idea what marriage is really about when we take those solemn vows, do we?

p.s. thanks for the invite. we found it sticking in the door yesterday!

Note to self: always assume topics of conversation with Emily will end up in her blog (and not with my point of view).

Joe is so funny! I could hear Brent saying the same thing about me.

ah, those were the days. I wish we lived closer and could go on more double dates with you guys. A lot has changed in those 8 1/2 years hasn't it?

I always feel old when I talk to engaged couples or newlyweds. It totally brings me back and I can't believe how fast the time has flown! Looking back, I feel like I had blinders on and no one or nothing else matter but Chris and I being together! I was amazed at how strong the feeling and confirmation was that I was making the right choice! I wouldn't change it for anything. But I too look back and think, wow, we really didn't know eachother that well! Not in a bad way, but ours was super fast too!

Your pics are great! This is what I thought when Steve proposed to me: "It's about frickin' time!!!"

I love the pics Emily! When Phil and I got engaged, I thought around the same things as you but at the same time, I don't think I knew exactly what to expect. Which when I think about it now...HOW SCARY!!!! Congrats to your sister and her fiance!

I also think my idea of picture touch-ups has evolved over the years. I recall that some of those pictures looked a little different :) Thank goodness for the wonderful miracle of Photoshop CS2. I love you little touch-up brush.
